I'm sorry to say to all of Rita's loyal followers she will be away from her blog for awhile. She has some health issues that will require surgery soon. I imagine her recovery will keep her from her computer until early next year.
I'm not sure what upset her more; not being able to blog or facing a second year of having the holidays disrupted with health issues.

I live in the first house at the entrance to a large complex of condos and apartments. Lots of kids can be seen here every day. But, come Halloween night few show up at my door. This family has been lining the walls of their terraced flowerbeds with jack-o-lanterns for as long as I have lived in town. This year the wall is all orange pumpkins. They have used everything from pink, purple, black, orange or a mixture of colors (including a few real carved pumpkins) over the years. This collection of sunny yellow posies were all taken during a recent visit to the Old Salt's brother in Columbia, Missouri. I was so surprised to find this field full of blooming sunflowers in mid October. I have no idea what the other yellow blooms are but I found them along the riverbank at Eagles Bluff Wildlife Preserve.

Near where I live there is a roadside farmers market where I often shop. It works on the honor system and this is a shot of the pay box or Money Can.
During a recent visit to the Old Salt's brother in Columbia, Missouri I captured this sign at the entrance to a large apartment complex. Several things bothered me about this sign. First, I believe a few things are Kranky Grannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01395118246357066241noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15262076.post-56556412178387487832012-10-23T00:00:00.000-05:002012-10-23T00:00:06.306-05:00E. A. S. Y Tuesday Again
It's time once again for E. A. S.Y. Tuesday. I'm finding that coming up with one or two photos starting with these letters is no problem. It's much harder than I expected to gather photos for all four of these letters each week. Being creative with items that start with the letter "Y" is especially hard. I hope I don't burn everyone out with all my shots of yards and thingsKranky Grannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01395118246357066241noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15262076.post-89269570318635844682012-10-22T18:06:00.000-05:002012-10-22T18:08:00.076-05:00Wedding Yellows
My nephew was married on Saturday in an outdoor setting. Attached are a few of the photos that contain the color yellow for this weeks Mellow Yellow Monday.
All the floral arrangements and decorations were done by two of my sisters with assistance from other family members.

I've mentioned here many times that I never travel without having my camera in my lap. You never know what you will see on the road. One day this week was a perfect example. An errand required us to take a trip into the next county. Most of the drive was on a narrow, curvy country road.
We came around yet another curve and the Old Salt drew my attention to Kranky Grannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01395118246357066241noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15262076.post-91749117097828064782012-10-19T04:24:00.000-05:002014-01-25T20:29:41.797-06:00Update. I wanted to update the post I did two weeks ago. I posted here explaining my absence from blogging. Many thanks to everyone who commented or e-mailed me with their concern and support.
I'm happy to report my grandson is much improved and has returned to school.

Even a trip to the grocery store can turn into a photo opportunity, as the following signs will attest. But, I have to admit that neither of them would ever be found on one of my vehicals.
When I spotted this decal on the back of a jeep recently I had to laugh and run for my camera. We have a dear friend who drives an old jeep. It is one of those cold, dark and dreary days here in Missouri's wine country; a sure sign that autumn is well on the way to winter. I'm afraid my life right now is about as gloomy as the weather. A dear friend has been sent home from the hospital to spend her final days with her loved ones plus, my grandson has been ill and required a trip to the ER. The Old Salt started playing football in the sixth grade and played every year through high school. He even played on a team after high school that played a circuit that included playing prison teams in Oklahoma. If the stories I hear are true he was a over achiever who managed to make the team every year in spite of being the smallest lineman in his conference.

Sharing a few recent captures of warning signs in my area.
I've heard this warning spoken for years, but, this is the first time I have actually seen someone using it in print.
This weathered sign is in the window of a house near my doctors office.

First 100 Years of Eureka Springs
This historic mural (12 feet high by 55 feet wide) dramatizes the early days of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; from the Indians who first camped there and discovered the curative properties of the many springs to the tourism of the early 20th Century. Early one morning last week the Old Salt and I took a walk around the historic district of our downtown area.
On Cedar Street I noticed that one of the grand old houses had what I would called an in-law apartment added onto the rear of the side yard and connected to the back wall of the house.
I was surprised to see that the entire side yard, which had become the front Kranky Grannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01395118246357066241noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15262076.post-22341923364495753932012-09-21T01:14:00.001-05:002012-09-22T13:54:57.763-05:00 Fencing in the New Fence
My sister moved into a house in the horse friendly community of Wildwood, Missouri a while back. They chose the location because it backed onto a state park with lots of riding trails for their horses.

There are times in life when a missed opportunity or special moment gone wrong just can't be corrected or recaptured. It is no secret around this site that the Old Salt and I are normally nocturnal in our habits. But, several situations, last week, required our being up and out every day before sunrise.
