Fencing in the New Fence

My sister moved into a house in the horse friendly community of Wildwood, Missouri a while back. They chose the location because it backed onto a state park with lots of riding trails for their horses.

Apparently, the lady across the street was unhappy about having a couple of dogs and several horses as neighbors because she had a barbed wire fence installed to protect her new wooden split-rail fence from the animals.

My sister expected this to be a temporary measure until the lady realized the animals would not be trespassing on her property.  But, it is now two years later and the double fences are still standing.

How many people do you know who would fence in a fence?

Sonic is Groovy

Last week we had to make a trip into the neighboring town of Union, Missouri.  While there we went through the Sonic drive through during happy hour for some half priced drinks.

I captured the following artwork as we made our way around the building.

Not sure wether to call it a mural or just street art?  You decide.

The "F" Words

Jenny Matlock, over at Alphabe-Thursday, likes to invite the FOLKS of Blogland into her classroom each week to discuss a FINITE letter of the alphabet.  This week we have been assigned the letter "F."  I FULLY believe I am FORTUNATE to be up to that challenge.

On a FRIDAY last April we made the trip to Montgomery Alabama, with my Mother, to attend my Aunt's FUNERAL.   While there we made a hospital call on my mother's sister-in-law.   My Aunt FLORINE.  We also visited Mom's sister and last surviving sibling.  My ninety-three year old Aunt Sister.   I snapped this photo of    the FENCE and FUSCHIA colored FLOWERS in her backyard with the FIR tree in the background in Dothan, Alabama.  I also swear there were no FLUBS, FAULTS or FIBS made in the writing of this story.

I have a couple of other snaps to share that begin with the letter "F."

The CampFIRE  with marshmallow FORK at our last FAMILY reunion.

I photographed this FLOCK of FLAMINGO'S at the San Diego Wild Animal Park's many FINGERED lagoon on my FIRST trip to California to meet the Old Salt.

Well, how did I do?  Is that enough "F" words FOR one post.

The Sun is Back

UPDATE ------  UPDATE ------  Check this out.

On my Friday Fences post last week I wrote about the problems I was having with the Jim Shore yard art I purchased last spring.  To see the original post click here.

Since then I have been able to get the address of the Jim Shore Headquarters and I wrote them a letter.  I will keep you posted on any results.

You will recognize this as the Jim Shore Sun photograph from the previous post.

Well,  the Old Salt and I have been busy.

The Old Salt finally found the right adhesive and  our sun is once again in one piece.  We sat down together and repainted it, gave it a coat of clear varnish and rehung it in a shadier spot on the bare part of the fence.  Only time will tell if the products we used will wear any better then those used by the company that manufactured this item.  But, for now I have a bright new sun to enjoy on my back fence.

Celebration Fences

Fencing, that amazing selection of post or stakes joined together with wire or wood that serves as an enclosure, barrier or boundary.  Fences can be as simple as a strand of wire charged with an electric current or as ornate as the human mind can imagine.

I grew up in farm country so I have dealt  with my fair share of fences.  I've even  encountered a few that I had to climb in a hurry to escape either a rogue animal or one of my nine brothers.  But, mostly when I see a fence I wonder what it is protecting or maybe, hiding.  Yep, I've been glad a few times that no one could see the mess my patio fence was hiding.

I currently live in a row of townhouses, and my patio is surrounded by a six foot privacy fence. Much to the chagrin of the Old Salt, I have decorated on both sides with a lot of what I like to call decorative items.  Perhaps one day I will actually put my fence on display for Friday Fences.  But, this week I have another type of decorated fence to share.

I captured these pictures a few years ago when I traveled to Alabama for my cousin's wedding.  They decided to have a small affair, in their front yard, with a Polynesian or Hawaiian theme.  The fence played a big part in the decorations for this event.

Now, I should warn you that parts of Alabama are not known for having lush green lawns.  In fact my mother tells tales about it being one of her chores as a girl to regularly sweep their front yard.  So, just imagine you can see grass in the following shots.  You will also have to click to enlarge for best detail.

As a side note you might enjoy knowing the ministers name was actually Johnny Cash.

Shadow Shot Sunday -- scallops on pebbles

Welcome one and all to this weeks edition of Shadow Shot Sunday.

This week I have a guessing game for you. Can you name what is making this shadow? If not then proceed to the second photo to get your answer. These shadow shots were taken in Albuquerque at the Balloon Fiesta. But, that is not a clue. The place or event has nothing to do with the answer.

Well, what is your guess? The correct answer is the plastic fence that was keeping Fiesta goers from wandering into the wrong places.

Have a great week everyone. For more great shadow shots click the camera badge to visit Hey Harriet and join in the fun.

Shadow Shot Sunday -- the fence

My gosh, its Sunday again. I can't believe how fast the weeks go since I discovered memes. Now the days are no longer known by the traditional calendar days. Instead, they are now called ruby, mellow yellow, or you get the point. Now it is time for Shadow Shots.

I had a different set of pics put aside for today and just had to change my plans. The Old Salt and I were on a scouting mission today that took us out into the country. We were driving along by a wooden fence that seemed to be a mile long. I was admiring the angles the fence took and the weathered paint when suddenly I noticed the shadows.

I yelled "STOP" and the Old Salt being a good sailor said "stop, aye" and found a place to pull over. I think I was out of the car and snapping shots before he even knew why we stopped. I made this collage of a few of the shadows.

Now like Paul Harvey, I will give you the rest of the story. Of course the shadows were on one side of the fence but I found what was behind the fence to be just as interesting. There was the fence itself followed by a nice mowed strip. Then I noticed there were several large fields beautifully laid out of Soybeans surrounded by more mowed patches. Then beyond the fields was............ well just see for yourself.

Click to enlarge and please study every corner --- There is more detail than meets the eye on first glance.
