Xanthic Photos

Jenny over at Alphabe Thursday has set a very difficult task for us today. Her letter for this week is "X". Not the easiest letter to work with. Of course, those easy X words that always show up in children's books on the ABC's are the first to come to mind. You know the ones I mean, X-ray and Xylophone. But, I'm afraid I have not been photographing many of those lately.

So I had to do what I always do when in a pickle. I asked the Old Salt for some suggestions. He did not disappoint me. The first word out of his mouth was Xanthic and my trusty Webster dictionary told me that was a word I could work with.

So I have a question for you. How many xanthic items could you find in a brief walk around your house? I came up with quite a few and here are some of them.

the view from my front yard

a print hanging on my dining room wall

The headboard of our bed

The picture over our sofa in the living room

our sick kitty looking out our front door

Have you figured out yet what xanthic means. Well, xanthic according to my old Webster dictionary means:

Tending toward a yellow color, or to one of those colors, green being excepted, in which yellow is a constituent, as scarlet, orange, etc.

So I will leave you with this wish, " I hope you have a lot of sunny, warm and cheerful yellow in your life."

  8. Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. I also appreciate the well wishes and prayers for our sick kitty.
A previous post about our sick kitty can be found here. The fact that she is standing in the doorway shows that she is improving. She has gone from loosing half her body weigh (due to a liver disorder) to gaining a few ounces each week. We are now in our fifth month of force feeding her and she is starting to eat a bit on her own, so we see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will do another post on her soon.

perhaps derived from xanthrophyll menaing any of a group of yellow carotenoid pigments occurring in plant and animal tissue.
hope sick kitty is on the mend.

  17. Great post. Usually I don't read the alphabet meme posts b/c I am afraid of getting hooked -- especially when I'm far behind on my favs like right now. But the title hooked me. I definitely didn't know the word and was hopping up to get my KIndle dictionary when I got down to the part where you gave the definition! That Old Salt is one smart guy. (And you are a terrific photographer and blogger and pretty darn smart your own self!!

  18. I will confuse my husband with this and ask him to get my the xanthic bowl out of the cupboard for dinner tonight!

I can see his face now in my mind!

I'm glad your kitty is feeling a little better. What a difficult journey she's been on. And what patient and loving people she lives with.

Thanks for a fun post. Your husband is such a good sport!

    A+
