Saturday Photo Hunters---- Books
This week the theme for Photo Hunters is Books. Now I could have chosen to discuss my love of reading. I might have provided a list of my all time favorite authors. I could have just shown you the inside of our public library. Instead, I decided to share with you one of the adventures we had during our recent vacation.
One of my sisters lives in Omaha which is the headquarters of Scholastic Books. Any parent certainly is familiar with the many programs Scholastic Books offer. Everything from reading awards, book clubs and school book fairs. This year our visit happened to coincide with Scholastic Books annual end of the school year book sale to clear out their warehouses of damaged or discontinued products. My sister works for Scholastic Books and gets a generous discount on the items they sell. We spent a very enjoyable afternoon browsing among the many books offered and came home with a box full of bargains.
The above photo is what remains of the box of books that the Old Salt and I purchased during our trip. June is a big month for birthdays in our family so I had already packed and mailed three boxes of books to our grandchildren celebrating birthdays before taking this picture. The remaining books are earmarked for special occasions through the end of the year.

Thank you for stopping by my site. Without your visits there would be no incentive to continue posting. So, having you here and reading your comments is the highlight of my day.
I regret that time does not always allow me to return visits to everyone who stops by, but, I will certainly do my best to get to everyone. I will definitely answer any questions you leave me.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Books are great gifts as long as the person likes to read. I just had a birthday on the 25th and my brother sent me a book, it was very thoughtful of him :)
ReplyDeleteAloha!!
ReplyDeleteI used to purchase all my books at my children's school book fair & gave them as gifts through out the year. Books make good gifts indeed. Great top view shot.
Happy Weekend!
Come visit!

ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Yeah...i love books as gifts.
ReplyDeleteI give books or bookstore gift cards for many special occasions too. I love getting the gift of books.
ReplyDeleteBooks are fabulous gifts, and they certainly go well with the Mark Twain quote you have on your site.

I bet your grandchildren were happy when they received their gifts.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I always thought that books made the best gifts... they can be reused and redistributed and the hair doesn't get pulled out like dolls or the wheels come off like trucks. Great job!
ReplyDeleteMy books are up here.
