Southern Reds

The Old Salt and I have just returned from a whirlwind trip through the South. We escorted my mother around the land of her birth where we visited with the southern half of my extended family. While I have many pictures to share and some great tales to tell I first want to share these selections with those who love visiting the memes devoted to the color red.

These red asiatic lilies were growing near my cousins

front porch in Manchester, Georgia.

Folks down south take their football very seriously.

One Georgia Bulldogs fan even carries his love to the curb.

While in Dothan, Alabama we had lunch at a new restaurant. This is the eighth Red Elephant restaurant in this chain and the first to be located outside of Florida. The Red Elephant is named after the owners favorite toy as a child and the atmosphere at Red Elephant is like a community block party for families and friends. Red Elephant remembers that before today’s world of social networks and Blackberries, eating together was the original interactive experience. The open design means all guests can see and be seen. Plus, each table gets a view of the fresh, tasty food being prepared in their open kitchen. If you ever get the chance to eat at a Red Elephant don't pass up the opportunity. You will certainly enjoy your visit.

I am linking this post to Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday.

Mary at "Work of the Poet" hosts Ruby Tuesday. Rednesday is a Wednesday meme hosted by Sue at "It's a Very Cherry World." Both memes are dedicated to the color red. To join the fun or just check out what Red others are excited to share visit Mary and her friends at Ruby Tuesday and Sue and her friends from Rednesday

  1. That Bulldogs mailbox is one of the most creative letter receptacles I've ever seen!

    DID SOMEONE MENTION SCARLET?

    Did someone mention scarlet
Or was it red I heard?
    Perhaps it was a varlet
    Or a vermilion bird
    That shouted out the color
    That’s dearest to my heart.
(It makes me feel much duller
If red is not a part.)

  2. I enjoyed seeing all your different reds. I have never seen an helmet mailbox. That is the best.

  3. "The Red Elephant." Do they have plans of expanding to Missouri? Perhaps we could inquire about franchises. Larry

Thank you for stopping by my site. Without your visits there would be no incentive to continue posting. So, having you here and reading your comments is the highlight of my day.

I regret that time does not always allow me to return visits to everyone who stops by, but, I will certainly do my best to get to everyone. I will definitely answer any questions you leave me.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
