Little America, Wyoming

Back in the fall of 2009 on what has become known as our "Last Hurrah" trip we we passed several resorts named "Little America" while driving in Arizona, Utah and Wyoming. These resorts were certainly not hard to spot. Sitting in the middle of a landscape that for many miles in all directions consisted of your typical southwestern hot, dry and barren dessert, these resorts were very green and lush. They contained golf courses, manicured lawns, large sky-blue pools and buildings designed to be noticed.

I shot this photo of the water towers for the resort in Cheyenne Wyoming sitting off some distance from the lush green campus.

A bit of interesting trivia I learned from some literature I picked up at the time tells me that nearby is the small town of Little America, Wyoming. A town founded to house some of the executives and staff of the resort. As of the 2000 census the town had 56 residents consisting of 28 males and 28 females living at 49 different addresses and a registered post office that delivered to P.O. Boxes only with the zip code 82929. The towns average age was under 25 years with a median income of $18,000.

  1. At first, I thought they are digitally altered but its the original. Nice capture. The red color in it is very shiny, must be newly painted. :)

  7. Interesting -= and something I didn't know about Whyoming. (I always spell it that way because it is my least favorite State(except of course I love the
    Grand Teton NP part).

Otherwise I usually say "Why oh why are we in Whyoming?)

  8. Kim, I could be wrong about these towers being for water. That was my assumption but, the Old Salt believes they are for gas or propane based on the piping system at the top.

Regardless, they were some distant from the resort in an area where they did not bother to care for the grass like they do around the resort.

  9. Although I've lived in the West and Midwest off and on for many years, I've never seen water towers in a series like that!

    A RED-LESS DAY?

“Oh, my goodness, oh, my dear!
Don’t you think it’s very clear
    That a red-less day’s a drag?”
