Absent Velvet

As I have mentioned in previous posts, Velvet is our problem child. She is the only one that wants to be outdoors more than inside.  She is the mischief maker, the instigator, the diva, the roof climber, the one who likes to leave presents on the doorstep.   Several days ago she   disappeared again. You can read about the last time this happened by clicking here.  After checking all her known haunts we gave up and decided to wait her out.  Later that evening the Old Salt was preparing to take a shower.  When he went to the linen closet for a clean towel this is what he found.

Our Velvet, wedged into a tight space between the top shelf and a stack of towels.  She seemed not to care that she had been locked in that closet for some time (I have a bad happen of going around the house shutting doors--- guess I had better start checking first).  She just patiently waited for me to go get the camera and snap a couple of shots.  In fact, she looked at us as if to say, "Close that door and leave me alone."

As a side note.  Last evening when I went out to water the plants I found that Velvet had left us a small (dead) present on the stoop.  At first I thought it was a mouse but the Old Salt informed me it was a shrew.  That was a new one for me.  I had never heard that word used in terms of a  critter before.  A parentally we have a field full of them behind our house.  Leave it to Velvet to bring one home.

  2. We locked a cat in the spare closet one morning and it was midnight before we found him. I thought he had dashed out the door and gotten lost. We only found him then because he was howling so loud to get out. He ran straight to the litter box and then just glared at us :o)

  4. Awww, Velvet is a cutie! My Oliver likes to run into the hall closet whenever the door is opened (which, fortunately for him, is often)! I have to be sure to look or he gets shut in! Cats are so silly.

  5. Aren't they sweeties? Our outside cat gets herself trapped in the barn/garage by climbing up on the woodpile, then onto the rafters, and jumps down onto the truck. But, she can't figure out how to get out. I have to make sure she's around each morning and if not, go let her out of the building.

  8. I opened the linen closet door at my daughter's house on day and was startled by one of her cats laying in among the towels, too. She is a sweet cat in spite of her individuality, I can tell. :-)

  9. So happy she is safe and sound! One of our cats climbed into and over the back of an open dresser drawer. My wife closed the drawer at some point and the cat didn't make a peep. that is where she stayed for the entire day...
Your incident and mine remind me of the old "curiosity killed the cat" rhyme...
