Friday Fragments #206

Welcome to Friday the thirteenth.  Maybe I should spent the entire day in bed.  You see I am the most accident prone person I know.  Just today (well yesterday when this gets posted) I got conked on the forehead by a sprinkler.  Yes, one of the little squares that shoot out water to hydrate your garden.  It just jumped up off the grass and conked me in the head. I now have a huge goose egg  turning several shades of black and blue and a small cut. Several days ago I tripped over my own foot and fell off a curb.  Last week I cut my hand.  So perhaps I should not tempt fate on Friday the 13th.  Actually, I'm not superstitious. I'm pretty sure most of the Friday the 13th's in my life have been uneventful. Truthfully though, this date as been very kind to me several times.  I recall one wintry Friday the 13th about thirty years ago when I was flat broke and hoping to get to work on an empty gas tank. I was about a block from work when the sputtering started and the car began to slow down.  I managed to coast into an alleyway and park the car.  As I was walking the remainder of the distance to work fretting over how I was going to get home I noticed the wind blowing something familiar  in the gutter in front of me.  It turned out to be a twenty dollar bill.

Well, this short, pudgy old lady finally learned why it is that I have never been able to get pants that fit perfectly.  Thanks to this display I passed in Macy's recently I now know that I have been shopping all wrong.  Why didn't someone tell me eons ago that I needed to buy the soul fit in my size.

Seems the Old Salt and I spend more time in doctor's offices lately than anywhere else.  During a visit last Monday I discovered a new aquarium had been installed on a wall in one of the waiting areas.  I've never seen anything like it before.  It is a self contained unit that hangs on the wall and is only about eight inches deep.  I found it a interesting and relaxing way to pass time while waiting for my blood draw.

We have a new deli in town.  They serve some very hot chicken wings and anyone who can eat an entire order gets them for free and gets the bragging rights displayed on this "Wall of Flame" for all to see. One of my brothers recently won the honor of signing the wall.  I'll leave it to you to figure out which name is his.

We have lots of businesses in town that spend large sums of money every spring getting a local nursery to provide planter pots of flowers in front of their establishment.  I can run out of fingers counting the number that currently have dead or dying plants as the first impression their customers see when approaching their business, because they fail to keep the pots watered.  It makes me so sad that I want to sneak out at night with my car loaded with gallon jugs to water them all.  I'm delighted our favorite eatery is not one of them as this shot I snapped this morning shows.

  2. I think my Friday the 13th's have been uneventful for me too. What a great one you had thirty years ago. Somehow, things seem to work out a lot of the time. That flower container is beautiful. Mine never look like those professional ones. Speaking of accident prone, I hope that aquarium is supported well. Maybe you should not sit near it at that office. Have a great weekend!

  3. I would want to water the plants too! We are having a drought here, and even though our lot is small (townhouse), I spend a lot of time watering. One pot? Easy! Shame on them!

  4. I can SO relate to your mention of being accident-prone. In fact, a favorite icon on Pinterest pretty well describes me:
"I'm NOT clumsy. It's just that the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies, and the wall gets in the way."

Hope that goose-egg on your forehead isn't causing you too much discomfort! Stay SAFE!

  7. This was such a great post! I loved all the different things you discussed and shared with us! The Macy's display was a hoot....there is something similar on a TV commercial for a foot care place, which purposefully says "Saving soles since...." :-) I hardly noticed it was Friday the 13th when it happened but a couple of others mentioned it in their posts. I hate you got hit in the head! But I loved the wonderful testimony about finding the $20. bill where you ran out of gas going to work! That's so wonderful! I have to share a Friday the 13th thing with you....on Friday the 13th in the month of October in the year 1967 my husband asked me to "go steady" with him and I said yes. We recently celebrated our 43rd Wedding Anniversary! Friday the 13th was definitely a LUCKY day for us! :-)

I regret that time does not always allow me to return visits to everyone who stops by, but, I will certainly do my best to get to everyone. I will definitely answer any questions you leave me.
