I just discovered this meme and it seems like a good way for me to showcase some of the many fascinating things in the Greater St. Louis area and my small home town. I would like to start with the Laurmeier Sculpture Park. On a cold and cloudy day Last fall the Old Salt and I accompanied by his brother and Sister-in-law visited the park for the first time. These are just a few of the sculptures we saw.
In 1968, Mrs. Matilda Laumeier bequeathed the first 72 acres of the future Laumeier Sculpture Park, together with a large story-and-a-half house of cut stone, to the people of St. Louis County in memory of her husband, Henry H. Laumeier, for the benefit of the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. In 1975, the park was proposed as a possible site for the exhibition of sculpture and the concept of Laumeier Sculpture Park emerged. Over the years it has grown to 105-acres. Laumeier Sculpture Park today has over 300,000 visitors annually.

A sculpture park is such a great idea - I mean, where else would you put sculptures? Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteI like the smile, even if it's not Ruby Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThese are real cool and so is the idea of setting asise the land for it. You can always see the arch, but this is better! Nice post, Rita :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are wonderful sculptures! It looks like a lot of fun to be in that park.
ReplyDeleteHi Rita - congrats on some fabulous photographs! It indeed seems like a lovely park to visit. Thanks for sharing your neck of the Woods ... perhaps you would also enjoy showcasing it at trivago?
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Cape Town,

Welcome to My World! This is a great contribution to the meme. I love this place and will have to visit sometime. (I'm from MO, SGF, and return to visit at least once a year.)
