Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday ---It's a Merry Berry time of Year.

I thought I would share a few of the photos I have taken recently of the red berries that are popping up all over.

Beside the court house in town.

mellow Yellow Monday ----A little girls dream

I popped in to visit with one of my cousins recently and found that my timing was perfect. She was preparing to have all her family over for Thanksgiving. As part of her preparations she was laying out the decorations, her granddaughter's would need, to decorate the dollhouse she had built for them.

I had never seen this adorable yellow house before and I quickly fell in love with it.

Kathy hand built this dollhouse, a number of years ago for her grandchildren, and decorating it for all the holidays had become a tradition for all of them. In fact she insisted on taking down the Halloween decorations before I took my photos.
I was fascinated by the details Kathy had incorporated into this house. If you click this photo and make it larger you will see lace curtains in the window, a cat on the roof over the porch and all the gingerbread details around the windows and on the porch.

Of course the house is fully furnished and every piece was hand made from a kit.

It has a dog house

Even a matching yellow car and hidden behind the car was a red canoe.

Pink Saturday ----- BBQ

Last weekend the Aamco Transmission shop in town was having a big special. They went all out to get the customers to visit their shop. The local radio station was on hand with a live broadcast.

Three of the most popular DJ's were on hand to encourage visitors to stop by to meet them and possibly receive some broadcast souvenirs and be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate.

But, I think the biggest draw was that everyone who stopped by got to visit the Pink Pig.

For some free BBQ served by the man in the Hamburger hat.

Yard art Thursday -- Mr. Gobble Gobble

Since today is Thanksgiving, and the day many like to call turkey day, what better to post for yard art Thursday than a turkey. In this case a turkey made from scrap medal.

I captured this gobbler in my cousin's yard during a visit last week. Bill's hobby is recycling trash into anything and everything artistic . I featured some of his pigs made from milk cans last weekend on Pink Saturday. This turkey is made from an old propane tank and has a yard towel for a beak and large washers for eyes.

I hope that your Thanksgiving turkey will not be as tough as this old bird. I also pray that you are spending the day with family and friends and that our Lord has provided you with much to be thankful for this year.

Old Barns -----Tulsa ok

Sorry all, I can't seem to keep my day straight for this great meme on Old Barns. So here I am again, a day late. Perhaps, next week I will get it right and post on Monday night.

I photographed this old barn during our recent trip to Oklahoma. I believe it was somewhere near Tulsa. What captured my attention was the rather unique paint job.

I hope you liked seeing my Old Barn this week. I am linking it to my blogging buddy Tricia's meme "Old Barns."

First of the season

Today we made the trip into St. Louis County so the Old Salt could see a new doctor. While he was having some test done I captured my first Poinsettia's of the season.

This planter was one of six decorating the lobby of the medical building. I did not believe the plants were real until I went up and touched them. I haven't changed my mind on holiday decorations not being displayed before Thanksgiving, but, I will admit that these were both simple and beautiful. And, I found myself making list of Christmas chores all the way home.

Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday ---giant steer

During our trip to Oklahoma a couple months ago we stopped beside the road in Oologah to photograph this monument to Will Rogers. While there, I noticed a red barn of a building just behind the monument.

"Wow!" "Look at that!" I called to the Old Salt.
It wasn't long before we were headed in that direction.

While that big red steer was what I was headed for I could not help but wonder who would place a building so close to the railroad tracks, that were obviously still in use.

Here it is up close. The big red steer I had seen from the other side of the fence.
But, I was dying to know what is the story behind this Bunyanesque steer.

When we walked to the front of the building we discovered it had once been a small restaurant. The menu boards were still there along with a few picnic tables but the building was empty. The sign that would have given me the name of the place was gone.

Next door was a large building that contained the Steer In RV Storage Business. Could the restaurant also have been called the Steer Inn.?

Mellow Yellow Monday ---- What If?

While looking through my photos today I realized, that if some insidious beast came into my neighborhood while I was asleep and caused every yellow item to disappear at least one third of my photos would be gone. That got me to thinking, so I have a question for you. Just how long would it take you to miss those yellow items and what would you miss the most.

For me, it would certainly be more than one thing and it would only take about two seconds.

I would not even get my feet on the floor before I noticed that my piece of my Grandmothers quilt was missing from the frame that sits on the chest across from my bed.

By the time I walked into my living room I would know that the front door was missing. And, a second later I would notice that the newspaper was not on the walk.

While standing at the kitchen sink to fill the coffee pot I would surely notice that the fireplug was no longer across the street.
And when I opened the back door to let the cat out I would find that the butterfly on the patio gate was missing.
The flags used by the Baptist church behind us to mark the children's play area would no longer be there.

A glance across the field to my daughter's apartment building would tell me that her friend's truck was missing from the parking lot.

Plus, there would be no eggs in the fridge for breakfast.

But, worse of all there would be no noise coming from the train engines that come through town daily bringing the coal to the power plant that provides all of our electric.

How about you?

Shadow shot Sunday --- Santa Fe

I had to go back into the archives for this weeks shadow shots. Both of these photos were taken last fall during our Last Hurrah trip out west, when we stopped in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This great gate and its shadow were just off the courtyard of one of the old Catholic churches near the town square. The name of the church escapes me at present.

I captured the Old Salt and these great shadows on the sidewalk outside the Presbyterian Church just a few blocks form the church in the first shot.

Pink Saturday ----- Mr. and Mrs. Oinker

Well everyone, I messed up this week. I scheduled my Pink Saturday entry to auto post and somehow scheduled the wrong date. I apologize to anyone that stopped by to find my post missing.

A couple days ago I was delivering some family stuff to a cousin of mine and discovered this happy couple living under the shade tree in her front yard. I learned that her husband had made this lovely yard art along with several other items that I will be posting on the meme Yard Art Thursday. But, since these cuties were pink I decided to share them here.

I failed to ask if they had a name so I am going to call them Mr. and Mrs. Oinker.

I'm sure by now you have realized that they are made from old milk cans.

Color Carnival #66 --- Birds of the Back Yard Puzzle

Two weeks ago today, our cable service went out and we lost both the TV and the internet. The company was unable to replace our faulty receiver box for five days. So what do you do when you are without any external form of entertainment?

The Old Salt had recently purchased this (very pricey)1000 piece puzzle of "Birds of the Backyard"; which he thought would be a good reference source for bird watching, once framed and hung near the patio. He also mentioned that it would be a good shared project for the two of us this winter. So, I dug it out of the closet and started putting it together.

This is as far as I had gotten by the time the cable service was restored. So the puzzle lay on the dining table for the next nine days and I would stop and play with it for a few minutes each time I walked past. Finally, yesterday I finished it.

Here we have the completed puzzle. But, it will not be glued together and framed anytime soon.

Turns out that somewhere over the previous two weeks a couple of the pieces went missing.
Heaven only knows where the missing pieces went. Will I find them in the tool box that sat under the table for several days? Are they in the box of Christmas decorations that also shared that same space for a while? Did the two year old who visits often carry the pieces into another room or put them into the toy box? Are they in the vacuum sweeper?

For now the puzzle still covers the dining table waiting for the miracle return of the Blackbirds body and the baby chickadee. Oh, by the way, next time you see the Old Salt, ask him how much time he spent on this great shared activity?
