Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday --- Sapp Brothers

When we travel to Omaha to visit with my sister one of the landmarks that lets us know we are getting close to our highway exit is the following water tower.

This was your average water tower constructed in 1971 to supply the needs of the businesses that were located to the west of the Omaha metropolitan area on Highway 50 and not accessible to the conveniences of city water and sewer. A short time later, the owners of the truck stop that was near the tower got permission to rent the town space to advertise their business and added the coffeepot handle and pour spout to the refurbished water tower and the landmark became known to Omaha residents and I-80 travelers alike.

Since then, Sapp Bros has been identified with the coffeepot symbol, which invites all to stop at their locations. Sapp Bros Truck Stops, has grown into a chain of sixteen travel centers in eight states and a giant coffee pot towers over each location. But this particular coffee pot lets us know that we are only thirty minutes from our destination in Omaha Nebraska.

I am linking this post to Ruby Tuesday and Rednesday.

  1. I love Landmarks. We did a bit of Route 66 and enjoyed all the vintage signs. Great post.

  2. Love that giant coffee pot!

  3. Nothing like old landmarks. It just sad you do not see many anymore. This one is a very neat with just the right touch of red.

  4. Oh I've never seen this. This is too cute. What a clever idea--it would make want to stop for coffee.

  5. What a great landmark. Cudos to Sapp Bros for their ingenuity, and thanks to you for sharing.

  6. I love that coffee pot water tower! There's a sweedish coffee/tea pot water tower in Kingsburg, California~ super cute!

Thank you for stopping by my site. Without your visits there would be no incentive to continue posting. So, having you here and reading your comments is the highlight of my day.

I regret that time does not always allow me to return visits to everyone who stops by, but, I will certainly do my best to get to everyone. I will definitely answer any questions you leave me.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
